Day 2 Nutrition and Hydration Week 2016

Its Tasty Tuesday and Day 2 Nutrition and Hydration Week 2016!

Our focus on hydration continues today as promised and as its Tasty Tuesday – today we are looking at hydrating foods.

Did you know 80% of your hydration and fluid intake usually comes from water (and drinks) but 20% can in fact come from hydrating foods?

Well which foods I hear you ask? The top 3 foods with the highest water content are:

CELERY = over 95% water

LETTUCE (especially the lighter green ones eg iceburg) at again over 95% water

CUCUMBER at over 96% water!

Did you see the Sunday Science article we shared via Facebook?  Check it out for more info as the 2nd best thing about celery and lettuce is you can buy it once and grow it again yourself!  You can also check out this how to video: How to grow a garden from kitchen scraps to find out more about growing your own in the simplest way possible.  I have no allotment, garden, balcony or even window box, but reckon I could give this a go – if I can, you can I’m sure, so as spring approaches why not take a stab at growing your own hydrating foods – its free!

A full list of hydrating foods will be included on the Thursday Blog, so be sure to come back and check that out.  In the meantime we suggest you sign up to the newsletter by completing the panel on the right and the info will automatically drop straight to your inbox – no nonsense!  And do share your own nutrition and hydration tips by Tweeting us @nononsensenita or posting to Facebook

Nutrition and Hydration Week 2016

Hi all – just wanted to draw your attention to Nutrition and Hydration week 2016 – starting today – Monday 14th March and lasts the full week.  Whats it all about?  Take a look here: www.nutritionandhydrationweek.co.uk and pledge your support by emailing info@nutritionandhydrationweek.co.uk

For the 2nd year running, we are proud to support  Nutrition & Hydration Week in raising awareness of not only good nutrition as we usually do, but the importance of good hydration too.

Do you know just how much water you should be drinking every day?  Do you think you drink enough?  Do you know what percentage of your body is made up of water and what happens when you become dehydrated?  Do you know what causes dehydration? Did you know foods can hydrate too?  Do you know someone that requires extra monitoring of their hydration – someone who may may be older/recovering from illness/sick/in hospital/requiring care?  Someone involved in a sports/exercise/activity/training program?  Do you know the importance of hydration on weight management?  What about the effects of alcohol (dehydration)?   We will be addressing these questions though the week via Facebook / Twitter  @nononsensenita and Google + so for the answers please go like/follow/tweet/share/comment etc and let us know your thoughts on Nutrition and Hydration this week.  You can also follow the @NHWeek Twitter feed for ongoing events and info this week.

Interantional Womens Day 2016

Today is International Womens Day 2016.  I want to urge all my wonderful ladies to do themselves a favour and take a look at the wonderful women I had the pleasure of sharing last Friday with.  Inspiring doesn’t even cover it.  I was blown away by their positive generosity and their incredible achievements.  Without sounding too much of a hippy chick – all these women resonated with me and the journey I’m on. I know you’re are with me, so encourage you, really, to take a look at the stories of these strong women too.

Please go ahead and seek out all you can about these 3 women today: IWD BLOG

For the LOVE of PANCAKES

For the love of pancakes this is definitely one of the better weeks of the year. Tuesday was Pancake Day – whoop! And Sunday will be Valentines Day, so love is in the air – another whoop! Two of my favourite ever celebrations! Come on – who doesn’t LOVE PANCAKES?!

And ok – who has never actually made pancakes before?  Who enjoys a stack when eating out? Who has a friend/family member/other half that cooks them for us?

Well me too.  My love of pancake day and all things pancakes was threatened this year when I realised I wouldn’t get to see my best mate who makes THE BEST blueberry pancakes ever, or see my boy who has a simple but classic pancake recipe that works every time.  So I decided to make them myself.  If you follow me on Facebook / Twitter / Instagram you will have seen the (amazing if I say so myself) results.  If you don’t follow me on social media do it now to see the results, then email me on info@nitakothari.com for the recipes we tried and tested and the alterations to the creations we used to A) make things healthy and to B) save time and effort, while giving maximum results and taste – no nonsense.

Fit in Feb – week 2

Get Fit in Feb – we are still doing it! Welcome back to Monday. Its the 2nd week of the month and it sounds like the first week was a success for us all in the mission to Get Fit in Feb! Very well done and thanks all for sharing your efforts. Good luck in continuing this week. (if you haven’t joined the event yet, no worries, you can do so here)

This week, week 2 – lets step it up a notch! This week of Get Fit in Feb is to build on what you’ve achieved. To continue what you’ve started, to keep at it and keep motivated.

Sometimes its not the starting, but the continuing that’s the challenge – this may be where we need support, so tell people what you’re aiming for, tell partners, friends, family, colleagues. SHARE, create awareness and create a little network of encouragement for yourselves. If you can and want to, go ahead and rope others into your training or your challenges too! Encouragement and appreciation of your efforts will go a long way, so tell people what you’re gonna do – do it – and take the congratulations and positive feedback! And remember it works both ways. If anyone tells you they are starting out, stick with them and give them the pat on the back they deserve when they do well too!

Our facebook shares in our little event are both inspiring and encouraging, so please go ahead and get involved: Facebook event.   If you’d rather share personally and directly please feel free to email me: info@nitakothari.com

And remember: “The best preparation for tomorrow is doing your best today.” (H. Jackson Brown, Jr)

Happy Monday, have a great week and do your best!
